• Avoid white clothing because the portrait background for Dutch ID Photographs is white.
• It is best to remove your glasses to eliminate any chances of rejection because of reflections.
• Your expression must be neutral with no frowning or smiling.
• You should be looking directly at the camera. Pictures even slightly in profile have been known to be rejected.
• The Netherland passport photo must be 35 by 45 mm (width x height). However, most Dutch consulates suggest not cutting them and allow them to do the cutting.
• Width: from ear to ear, between 16 mm and 20 mm.
• Height: from age 11: from chin to crown, between 26 and 30 mm.
• Up to age 11: from chin to crown, between 19 and 30 mm.
• Visa & Passports pictures for the Netherlands must be taken by a professional studio.
• Dutch Passport and Visa photo sizes and quantities of photos required change frequently. Please verify the photo specs with your embassy prior to visiting our studio

The Photo Matrix

Starting on August 26, 2006, Dutch travel documents, the Dutch Passport and the Dutch Identity Card, will all contain a micro-chip wherein an individual’s facial features are stored. The facial features will be stored through the process of scanning individual passport pictures that meet the stricter passport photo requirements. By implementing the new Photo Matrix Model 2006, the Netherlands meets the requirements of the EU-regulations concerning standards for the security characteristics of and biometric data of recorded facial features. Only passport photos meeting all the given requirements will be accepted at the point of application for a travel document.

The Photo Matrix Model 2006 has been divided into 10 categories of which 8 categories are related to visual aspects and 2 categories are related to geometrical requirements, the measurements of the face on the passport photo.

The passport photo is to identify the applicant; therefore, a color photo closely resembling the applicant must be submitted at the point of application for a travel document.

Only passport photos meeting all the given requirements will be accepted at the point of application for a travel document, unless the exception provisions from the Passport Implementation Regulations apply.

New One Person - One Passport Requirements also state that all Dutch Passport and Visas contain two fingerprints and that children must have their own travel documents.
